If you are experiencing issues with the sound levels on Amira (your Amira is having difficulty hearing you), please follow the steps below to troubleshoot your issue.
Amira is designed to handle typical classroom noise, but microphone permissions, browser/device settings on iPads, or insufficient network bandwidth can trigger the "can't hear" message. The steps below address those causes.
For iPads
Performance issues with Amira on an iPad can often be resolved by optimizing your device settings. **Here are a few steps to try:**
Check that you're using Safari. On iPads, Amira Learning is only supported on Safari.
Always Allow the Microphone. To avoid access issues, ensure Safari is set to "Always Allow" microphone use. Go to Settings > Safari > Settings for Websites > Microphone, and choose Allow.
Install the Latest iOS Version. Amira performs best on an iPad with iOS 16 or higher. To install, connect your device to power and Wi-Fi, then go to Settings > General > Software Update and tap Download and Install.

For Chromebooks, PCs, and Macs
If Amira can't hear your student, here are a few steps to try: Step 1: Ensure the device has mic access.
Step 2: Check the network speed. Amira requires a consistent 10 Mbps upload and download speed.

A few prevention tips
- Typical classroom noise is fine, but if learners are in very noisy spaces (e.g., cafeterias/gyms), headsets can help. They're optional, not required.
- If you're mixing device types, apply the iPad steps only to iPads (Safari + mic "Allow") and the mic/bandwidth checks to non-iPad devices.
